Finding a puffball

Me and the guys stumbled across what we think was a big puffball the other day while hiking a field edge, was just sitting there like someone forgot a volleyball in the tall grass, we couldn't check the inside though coz none of us ha a knife on us and eventually we left it behind (still kinda kicking myself), but now I'm officially obsessed, been reading up and watching ID videos and seems like they're actually pretty easy to spot, what is the best time to hunt them ?, I may just add that to my weekend routine haha

Man, that's awesome! Puffballs are super fun to hunt, the best time to find em is late summer through fall, especially after some rain

Yeah puff balls are great. One great thing to as long as you are certain you have a puff ball and not a amanita species or other white stemed mushroom that hasn't broke through the veil yet your good to go. Unless something has changed recently no puffball mushrooms are toxic to humans. Just make sure the flesh is all white and firm. I dont get the giant ones where im at but I get the gem studded puffballs and they are delicious
