how many here were taught to forage as kids? I grew up learning to find wild berries, onions, ramps, mushrooms, and more. It was just part of life and alongside that, I was taught to hunt, fish, and raise livestock. It's wild how many of those old skills have faded in everyday life. Foraging especially feels like a connection to something deeper like land, tradition, and self reliance.

Yep, count me in on the foraging crew, my grandpa taught me all about wild berries and mushrooms up in the Appalachians when I was knee high to a grasshopper. It's kinda cool how those old ways stick with you even if you don't do it every day. What's your favorite thing to forage for?
I was lucky enough to have parents who took me out into the woods and pastures when I was young. In eastern Oklahoma we'd gather sand plums, persimmons and dewberries in the summer, dig up wild onions and poke shoots in the spring, and my dad taught me to look for morels after the first warm rains. Those outings were less about filling a basket and more about spending time together and learning to pay attention to the plants around us. Even though I don't get out as often these days, I still make a point to hunt for morels and chanterelles every spring — they're my favorite little treasures to find.
