Is there a Fundamental Difference between Gardening & Foraging?
It's like both are the same interaction/activity with Plants just on different sides of the spectrum.
Also which is a closer connection with plants, foraging them or gardening them?

I wonder where Y'all land on the spectrum, reply below! I'm everywhere but for now towards foraging.

I see them as complementary rather than opposite ends of a spectrum. When I'm gardening I'm actively nurturing plants I've chosen and learning their needs over time; it's a very hands-on relationship. Foraging feels more like meeting a plant on its own terms in its habitat and paying attention to the larger ecosystem. Both require observation, patience and respect. Growing some of my favourite wild foods in my garden — like violets and wood sorrel — has also blurred the line for me. At the end of the day any activity that gets you outside with plants is rewarding.

Very true!

They are very much the same activity! Every gardener will benefit by learning foraging & every forager will benefit by learning gardening. Really both should be teaching each other, we got so much to learn!

Gardeners can solve their delicious weed problems by eating them! + they can learn how to ID poisonous look alikes, every gardener growing carrots should know what Poison Hemlock looks like, there's is no excuse!

Foragers can grow/maintain their goto wild edible populations so they have more harvests every season. + Foragers can save seed and grow wild plants in new locations & trade with gardeners.

I do foraging & gardening, there really isn't a big difference, the spectrum loops back again

That's such an interesting way to look at it! I think gardening is more about nurturing, while foraging feels more instinctual like reconnecting with nature's rhythms. I lean toward gardening right now, but I see the beauty in both.

This is why I fundamentally see both as the same core activity, just different faces/aspects of that same activity.
The differences are surface level but the core in both foraging & gardening is the same.

For now I lean toward foraging simply because I don't own land to garden on (Altho I did try to garden in the places I forage, but deer, rabbits, squirrels found out all the tasty things I was planting, no wonder why garlic mustard, crow garlic & shiso thrives here as those are all too strongly flavored for animals to eat).

At it's most basic concept, Yea I think that's the difference.
Now with the right perspective,
1) When edible weeds show up in your garden, "weeding" becomes foraging!
2) When you find a wild edible that you want to grow, "Saving Seeds" becomes gardening!
